Q Discussion Question "Our class material of this week comprised a discussion on the global financial system, financial crises, and the ecological environment. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, world economies, on the one hand, have declined significantly leading to the first global financial crisis since the Great Recession of 2007-2010. On the other hand, initial ecological data suggest that due to significantly declined global economic activity and the lockdowns and quarantines ordered by governments around the world, the air and waterways in many countries have not been as clean in decades which, in turn, may contribute to slowing climate change. Many activists, such as Bill Gates, consider battling the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change as two peas in the same pod, given that both require “innovation and science, and the world working together" as mentioned by Gates in a recent article titled "How the coronavirus pandemic can help the world solve climate change". Select a Fortune 500 company (other than the country selected by your or any of the other teams for the 'Country Attractiveness Assessment Project') and assume you are a key executive at that company. Discuss what specific actions/strategies you would implement (a) during the current COVID-19 pandemic to keep your business going (i.e. short- to medium-term actions) and (b) once the COVID-19 pandemic is under control and business goes "back to normal" (longer-term actions/strategies). When discussing these actions/strategies, discuss how technological advances (which was the focus of the previous week) may help your company become more ecological friendly and, at the same time, more financially strong; how your actions/strategies are helping your company build a global competitive advantage while being ecologically conscious; and how these actions/strategies will prepare your company to better deal with the next financial crisis as well as the next global pandemic, which many scientists predict would only be a matter of time."
